We have a new obsession, She embodies everything we stand for at Stresemann. She is an independant woman making waves. She marches to the beat of her own drum. She is gorgeous and fearless. We were lucky enough to catch up with Eve Rakow on our recent trip to Cape Town, South Africa. Eve is a Recording and Performance Artist from the Mother City (Cape Town) and has recently released her third album with her band The Frown named W.A.N.D. (WE ARE NOT DEAD).
L : Where do you find your biggest Inspiration
E : Inspiration is subconscious so this question is always tricky. It comes from everywhere. it comes when you least expect it. it comes when you don’t want it. it comes when you sleep. dreams. I make dream shapes. I don’t make music. So I guess the things that inspire me are all the things I find most beautiful and most horrifying. snakes. mayonnaise. shoes. faces. feet. water. eternal damnation bliss. euphoria. mistakes. love. lust. cheese.
L : Describe yourself in 5 words
E : OULIK // AFRICA // FEEL // SPELLS // FUTURE
L : What is the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you?
E : Being who I am almost every time I get on stage something embarrassing happens, but I try to use it to add humanity to my performance otherwise very out of body onstage presence. (Did you like how artfully I dodged that one? )
L : If your house was on fire first things you would grab
E : My pekingese Yin-Yang, and the great love of my life and muse Hein Coetzee. Thats all I need. I care naught for material things. This is however presuming that I’d already be wearing my platforms.
L : Place in the world you most want to travel to and why
E : JAPAN! Definitely Japan. It is so visually and culturally intriguing and beautiful to me. Everything from pop-culture to fashion to nature to customs and traditions. It seems alien. It seems like it would be a place that would feel so foreign and so like home to an alien like me.
L : Your favorite quote
E : ‘NO MATTER WHERE WE ARE WE’RE ALWAYS TOUCHING BY UNDERGROUND WIRES’ – Of Montreal, The Past is a Grotesque Animal
L : What are you listening to right now
E : EASTER, Glass Swan, Hlasko
L : Can you describe your personal style and what your interpretation of fashion is?
E : I’d say my own personal style is a cross between and crazy old lady with a glass cane and a 5 year old in a candy store. My style motto is ‘Find the perfect outfit and then add something to completely ruin it’. If its not fun I’m not interested. I’m not really into fashion. Fashion is boring. Style. Now style is eternal. And that is something no one can teach or learn you just have it, you must trust it to be able to add to the world aesthetically.
